Helping Children Succeed
Education is a cornerstone for success in school, work and life. It benefits the whole community. Well-educated residents earn more and contribute more to their local economies, are more engaged in their communities, and are more likely to raise kids who also succeed in school.

HOW WE DO IT
United Way of Northwest Louisiana offers Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program that supplies FREE books to children from birth to five years old. Currently, any child under five years old living in 71064, 71103, 71106, 71109, 71111, 71112 zip codes or anyone living in Desoto, Natchitoches, Sabine, Red River and Webster parishes are available to participate.
THE FACTS:
- When a child has access to books, their world becomes larger and their imagination soars.
- They are better prepared for school and better prepared for life.
- Research shows that the number of books in a child’s home is significantly linked to reading scores; the more books, the better the score.
- Children participating in the program score 15 percent higher on their kindergarten readiness test.
Books are delivered directly to the child’s home – one per month – until he/she is reaches their fifth birthday. By the time he/she goes to kindergarten, they are sure to have their own library full of wonderful worlds and far-off places.
