(Shreveport, LA) – United Way of Northwest Louisiana’s (UWNWLA) Day of Caring, sponsored in part by Chesapeake Energy, returns on April 28, 2022, at the Bossier City Civic Center. Approximately 600 volunteers from local businesses are expected to attend the organization’s largest, single-day volunteer event, where they will unite to work on a single impactful project for Northwest Louisiana.

Shreveport-Bossier is a central site for providing necessary natural disaster relief, as seen with recent hurricanes Ida and Laura. Evacuees from the south are forced to urgently leave their homes with little to no time to gather their necessities. At Day of Caring, volunteers will work together to create hundreds of hurricane evacuee essential needs bags. These bags will be filled with clothing items, toiletries, and other personal items to support and sustain victims of future natural disasters.

“We are thrilled to bring back our organization’s most beloved event,” said UWNWLA President & CEO LaToria “Tori” W. Thomas. “This year, we designed Day of Caring to meet a significant need in our community with the help of volunteers. Volunteers are the heart of this event, and we are happy to see hundreds of people in our community getting excited to make a difference.”

After volunteers complete the disaster relief project, UWNWLA will host an afterparty, which includes lunch, mini-golf, raffle prizes, music by DJ Pooh, and more. The raffle prizes include a YETI cooler, Instant Pot Duo multi-cooker, Ooni gas-powered pizza oven, Farberware toaster oven & air fryer, and a one-night stay at Sam’s Town Hotel & Casino with a dinner certificate to William B’s Steakhouse. Day of Caring donations will support UWNWLA’s efforts to help displaced disaster victims. As a thank you from United Way, all donations will earn donors chances to win raffle prizes. Prize winners will be announced at the event and contacted after the event.

UWNWLA is currently seeking businesses interested in building employee morale and connecting with the community to register their team for Day of Caring. The deadline to register a team is April 18.
