(Shreveport, LA) – United Way of Northwest Louisiana (UWNWLA) and the City of Shreveport announced that its Shreveport Financial Empowerment Center (SFEC) has increased client savings by $501,733 and reduced client debt by $558,710 since its opening in May 2020. In direct partnership with the City of Shreveport, the SFEC provides professional one-on-one financial counseling as a free public service to residents in Northwest Louisiana.

City of Shreveport Mayor, Adrian Perkins, shared the milestone on November 3 at the SFEC via social media. “Coming from a single-parent home where my mother had to raise three boys, I know how important financial stability is for our families throughout the City of Shreveport,” said Mayor Perkins. The SFEC gives the public the opportunity to receive free financial counseling and puts them on the path to financial stability.”

At the SFEC, professionally trained FEC counselors help individuals and families tackle several financial obstacles, such as reducing debt, increasing savings, establishing and building credit, and accessing safe and affordable mainstream banking products.

“We are so proud of our clients and all the things they have been able to do this past year,” said UWNWLA Vice President of Financial Stability, Rashida Dawson. “Not only are clients becoming financially stable, but they are achieving other goals, such as building Shreveport and assets they can pass down to their families.”

The Shreveport Financial Empowerment Center is currently conducting in-person and virtual appointments. To learn more, visit https://unitedwaynwla.org/our-focus/financial-needs/financial-empowerment-center/
