United Way of Northwest Louisiana along with the Minden community, completed more than ten projects for local nonprofits. Saturday’s Day of Caring event involved about 100 people.
The day started with a breakfast at Webster Council on Aging. All volunteer teams gathered there to pick up event t-shirts, meet each other and receive a word of encouragement from Ron Anderson of Project Reclaim.
This is the third time the community-wide volunteer event has been brought to Minden and the event has grown in size each year. Eager volunteers from four area businesses helped pull it off including: Aimee Hospice Care, MBL Bank, members of the Webster Parish School Board and the largest team with 35 volunteers was Minden Medical Center
Projects included cleaning ponds at the Farm of Cultural Crossroads, painting an entry sign for the Joe LeBlanc Food Pantry and writing encouraging words to include in snack packs for the students of Project Reclaim. According to IndependentSector.org, the estimated value of volunteer time donated on May, 6 is worth $7,800.
