National Volunteer Week, April 21-27, 2013
April 21 -27th was designated,
as National Volunteer Week. It is a time
to celebrate people doing extraordinary things through service. Established in
1974, National Volunteer Week focuses national attention on the impact and
power of volunteerism and service as an integral aspect of our civic
leadership. The week draws the support and endorsement of the president and
Congress, governors, mayors and municipal leaders, as well as corporate and
community groups across the country.
As the state-designated Volunteer Center for
Northwest Louisiana, United Way of Northwest Louisiana seeks to mobilize
volunteers across NWLA to contribute to making a better quality of life for
all. Together, in every community, we seek
to renew the spirit of shared purpose that defines a successful life, the
purpose of service to others. Specifically,
we seek to serve as a nexus that facilitates collaborative strategic and
focused community service opportunities.
Our goals are three: 1) Build the efficacy of
employee volunteerism and corporate social responsibility through our Business Volunteerism
Network; 2) Create and manage a web-based presence where every individual and
nonprofit agency can connect to opportunities and needs; and, 3) Serve as the
Points of Light and Hands on network’s affiliate and continue to participate in
the statewide volunteer center association.
Your United Way desires to facilitate each
community’s efforts to serve one another through volunteerism. We salute you and encourage all citizens to
stand alongside us, as, through volunteering, we are the difference in
northwest Louisiana!
Standing with you,
Bruce Willson, Jr., President & CEO
