Rashida Dawson is the Financial Stability Program Director of United Way of Northwest Louisiana and manages the Bank On Northwest Louisiana program. As a part of the Bank On Northwest Louisiana initiative, she has helped connect over 3,400 residents to bank accounts in Northwest Louisiana.
Rashida graduated with her Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from the University of Louisiana at Monroe in 2011. Upon graduating, she was an intern with ReRez Market Research in Dallas, Texas and became the Programs & Events Coordinator for the Allie Smiles Foundation, a non- profit geared towards raising awareness about canine cancer research and supporting the health and well- being of animals. She then began working with the City of Shreveport’s Department of Community Development in 2012. It is there where she helped develop and launch the Bank On Shreveport program in 2013 under former Mayor Cedric B. Glover’s administration.
Fulfilling her commitment to serve others, she is a current Board Member of PEP! The Pet Education Project and actively involved with various community organizations that seek social and progressive change throughout Northwest Louisiana.
When Rashida is not working or advocating for the needs of her community, she enjoys physical activities such as rollerblading, amateur salsa dancing, and extreme circuit training. She also has an interest in the entertainment and film industry and enjoys planning special events and watching independent films.
Full of spunk and charisma, Rashida lives her life by these words of the great poet, Maya Angelou, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
